Who we are
Alexandra Park Neighbourhood Learning Centre (APNLC) is an adult learning centre located in downtown Toronto. APNLC offers a variety of free learning programs including Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) and Academic Upgrading (AU) classes, as well as one-to-one tutoring delivered with the support of volunteer literacy tutors.

These programs offer adult learners the opportunity to upgrade their skills and knowledge to prepare for college programs, apprenticeships and employment. We also support adult learners to become more engaged with their communities and to develop important skills for everyday life.

All programs are free.

Our Mission
APNLC is committed to working alongside adult learners to meet their goals of enhanced independence, employment, apprenticeship, or post-secondary education.

Who We Work With
APNLC offers programs to adults over the age of 18 who are committed to reaching their learning goals. To learn more about our different programs or to find out how to join the APNLC community, please read the Programs page.

Our History
APNLC was founded in the mid-eighties to meet the literacy needs of people in the community. In the early days, literacy groups ran out of a small house in the Alexandra Park neighbourhood. After nearly 20 years on Denison Avenue, APNLC moved down the street to the Scadding Court Community Centre, and remains at Scadding Court to this day. Participants in APNLC’s literacy programs benefit from learning in a vibrant environment where people from all walks of life come together to share, learn and grow.

How We Are Funded
This Employment Ontario program is funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario and through the Canada-Ontario Job Fund Agreement.
